Does anyone have trouble with dishwashers causing 3 piece recorders to swell and not fit together well?

Or with 2 part recorders with metal parts getting umm, how do I describe it - the gold because green or scratched off - from the bleach. There is a word for that...

When you put them thru the dishwasher do you stick them in upright?
Or are they lying down horizontally? Does it matter?

Never washed them in the washer before but I want to start this week!
